DefenseThe first three A-29N Super Tucano aircraft have arrived at OGMAfacilities in Portugal, marking the initial delivery of the twelve units acquired by the Portuguese Air Force (FAP). The transfer flight was conducted by Embraer, eight months after the contract was signed.
The Super Tucano turboprops for the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) took off from Embraer’s facilities in Gavião Peixoto, Brazil, last week and made the ferry flight with refueling stops along the way.
The A-29N variant was developed to meet NATO requirements, with the FAP becoming the launch customer for this updated configuration. The aircraft are intended for use in training and aerial patrol missions within the alliance’s operational framework.

The A-29 Super Tucano is a turboprop military aircraft recognized for its suitability in training and light attack roles. According to Embraer, more than 600,000 flight hours have been logged worldwide by this model, which is currently operated by 22 air forces.
The A-29N incorporates advanced target identification systems and a reinforced structure that allows for operations from unpaved runways and in austere environments.
Operational costs are a key consideration, with the aircraft designed for reduced maintenance requirements and low overall expenses, according to manufacturer specifications. These features are expected to support FAP’s efforts in enhancing pilot training and operational readiness while maintaining cost efficiency.
