The Saudia Group and Airbus have signed an agreement to acquire 10 A330-900s that will be transferred to flyadeal, the Saudi company’s low-cost carrier.

The order was expected since January, but was only confirmed on Wednesday. These are the first widebodies ordered by the airline founded in 2016.

Flyadeal currently has a fleet of 38 A320s, most of which are Neo variants. The company also flies A330 jets leased from third parties.

The Saudi Group has an order for 105 Airbus aircraft, including 54 A321neo aircraft, for flyadeal in May 2024.

“This deal marks a pivotal milestone in our ambitious strategy to modernize and expand our fleet. It builds on last year’s historic deal with Airbus for 105 aircraft.

“Saudia Group’s A330neo order for flyadeal marks a key step in advancing the Kingdom’s aviation ambition to unlock long-haul markets and attract new customers,” added Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales Commercial Aircraft at Airbus.

Although not mentioned, the first A330-900s are expected to arrive at the carrier in 2027.

Flyadeal also evaluated the Boeing 787, but opted to maintain the fleet standardization with Airbus aircraft.

Currently, flyadeal flies to destinations in Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan and Turkey, in addition to maintaining a large domestic network.
