DefenseThe German Navy took delivery of its first NH90 Sea Tiger helicopter during a handover ceremony at Nordholz on December 16.
This delivery is part of a contract for 31 helicopters to be delivered by 2030, replacing the aging Mk88A Sea Lynx fleet.
The NH90 Sea Tiger is equipped for anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare missions, with a new electro-optical system and enhanced electronic support measures.
The aircraft features a dipping sonar, sonobuoys, and can deploy torpedoes and missiles.

“We are extremely proud to deliver the first NH90 Sea Tiger to the German Navy today, on schedule, on cost, and on quality,” said Stefan Thomé, managing director of Airbus Helicopters in Germany.
The German Navy already operates 18 NH90 Sea Lion helicopters, which were delivered between 2019 and 2023.
The delivery comes months after Norwegian government and NHIndustries concluded an amicable settlement resolving all disputes related to Norway’s NH90 helicopter program. The agreement covers the return of all NH90 aircraft, mission-specific equipment, and spare parts previously delivered to Norway.
