New UK carrier Global Airlines is counting down the days to debut its long-haul flights with its sole Airbus A380.
Although limited, the airline will operate two flights to New York, one from Glasgow, Scotland, and the other from Manchester, on May 15 and 21.
While tickets are being sold, Global is racing to complete the retrofit of the massive double-decker aircraft.

In recent days, the company’s founder, James Asquith, shared images and a video showing the interior of the A380, registered as 9H-GLBL.
The aircraft, which was originally received by China Southern Airlines, received the new owner’s paint job in Portugal, where it has also undergone changes to provide the service promised by Asquith.
One of the new features revealed is the “Sky Pub”, but the businessman did not explain what it is. What is noticeable is that the classes and seats used by China Southern were maintained, but received new upholstery and carpets with the colors and logo of Global Airlines.
Perhaps already expecting criticism, Asquith justified the change, which is still short of his plans.

Regardless, I’m really proud of what we have done in a short space of time, and of course, this is just the start for us. Remember the first product on Virgin in the early days…it only got better and better with time.”
For now, Global Airlines does not have its own Air Operator Certificate (OAC), so the operation of the A380 will be handled by Hi Fly, a Portuguese airline specialized in ACMI.
