Gol to resume flights from Brazil to Venezuela
Gol Linhas Aereas announced on January 17 that it will resume flights to Caracas, Venezuela. The country’s capital had not been served by the airline since February 2016, after the confiscation of dollars by the government of Nicolás Maduro.
The new flight, however, will be operated from Brasília and will stop in Bogota, Colombia. The route will begin on March 31 and will be operated twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.
The airline has reinforced Brasília International Airport as its international hub, taking advantage of its central location, which favors the range of the Boeing 737 MAX 8, the aircraft scheduled for the new flight and which has 176 seats.
In addition to Bogotá, Gol currently flies from Brasília to Miami and Orlando in the United States, Buenos Aires in Argentina and Cancún in Mexico.
The carrier’s international network also includes destinations such as Aruba, Punta Cana, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Rosario, Montevideo, Córdoba and Mendoza, which have flights from other Brazilian airports.
Limited flights
Currently, few international airlines operate flights to Venezuela, whose government is considered dictatorial by many countries.
Brazil had been without direct flights since 2020 due to the pandemic, but since 2023, the state-owned Conviasa has resumed flights between Ciudad Guayana/Puerto Mordaz and Manaus, in the north of the country, with Embraer E190 aircraft.
The route, which operates only once a week, has seen very low demand. According to data from January to October last year, the occupancy rate was only 46%.
