Dubai AirshowGulf Air confirmed a firm order for 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners on November 18 during the Dubai Airshow, with options for three additional aircraft.
The announcement of the Gulf Air order was made in July during a visit by Bahrain’s Crown Prince, Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to the US, where he met with President Donald Trump.
Gulf Air is expanding its long-haul flight network and in October has resumed its direct flights between Bahrain and New York (JFK) after a 28-year hiatus, with the inaugural service taking place on October 1.
The company last operated the route in 1997 and now returns with three weekly flights using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
The airline currently operates 10 Boeing 787s, connecting more than 50 destinations worldwide. The new order, if fully exercised, will bring Gulf Air’s 787 fleet to 27 aircraft.
The current fleet consists of 43 aircraft, including 15 A320s and 18 A321s, as well as a dozen Dreamliners.
