Air TransportHainan Airlines accepted its first A330neo at a delivery ceremony at Airbus facilities in Toulouse, representing the model’s initial entry into service with a Chinese operator.
The airline has not officially recorded an A330neo order with Airbus, though industry sources previously discussed a potential commitment for 20 A330-900 aircraft in 2024.
The transaction structure remains unconfirmed, and industry speculation suggests the aircraft may be leased rather than directly purchased.
‘The A330neo is very suitable for the Chinese market, with its high-density domestic and regional routes and an expanding network of long-haul destinations,’ an Airbus executive said.
The delivered aircraft, registered as B-32MU, is configured with 24 business class seats and 277 economy class seats. This layout aligns with Hainan Airlines’ strategy for flexible deployment on various route profiles.
Hainan Airlines currently operates a fleet of first-generation A330s, including 22 A330-300s and five A330-200s. The addition of the A330neo signals a continued commitment to Airbus widebodies within the carrier’s network.
