Hawaiian Airlines Retires HA Callsign Following Alaska Air Group Integration

Transition to single FAA operating certificate ends 95-year run of HA identifier

Hawaiian Airlines used its HA callsign for the final time on October 29, as it concluded 95 years of independent flight operations. The last HA-designated service was flight HA866 from Pago Pago to Honolulu, operated by Airbus A330-200 registration N370HA.

The change comes after Alaska Air Group completed its acquisition of Hawaiian, resulting in a consolidated FAA operating certificate for both carriers. Effective immediately, all flights are now communicated under the AS callsign for air traffic control purposes.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) had granted acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines by Alaska Air in December 2023, allowing the two carriers to operate under a single operating certificate.

Alaska Air has agreed to pay $1.9 billion for Hawaiian, the first merger in the United States since Alaska itself acquired Virgin America in 2016.

Alaska and Hawaiian together have nearly 400 aircraft and complementary flight networks. The two carriers will continue to operate under their respective brands despite the unified certificate.
