Helvetic Airways will reinforce its fleet with four leased Embraer E195s
From the Fokker 100 to the Embraer E190 and then to the new E2 jets: Helvetic Airways undertook a major renovation of its aircraft fleet years ago that seemed like a path of no return.
But the Swiss carrier, which offers scheduled, charter and wet-lease flights, has changed its plans and is now reinforcing its fleet with second-hand Embraer aircraft.
After receiving two E190-E1s last year, Helvetic announced on January 15 that it has entered into a leasing agreement for four E195-E1s with Azorra.
The aircraft built in 2011 will be delivered from the second quarter of 2024 in a 122-seat configuration, the company said in a statement.
With the E195s, the airline’s fleet will reach 22 planes, 12 of which are E2 models (eight E190-E2 and four E195-E2), six E190s in addition to the four Azorra jets.
“The four completely reconfigured and modernized aircraft will ideally complement our existing fleet. They will allow us to maintain a stable flight schedule even under the current challenging conditions and guarantee our customers a high level of reliability, planning security and, above all, punctuality” , said Helvetic Airways CEO Tobias Pogorevc.
The company’s plan is to meet the expected demand for the summer of 2024, which explains the decision to have the E195-E1 in its fleet for the first time.
Helvetic’s main client is Swiss, which is part of the Lufthansa group and wet-leasing at least six E2 jets – the leasing modality includes crew and services provided by the company.
