Hungary’s newly-established paratrooper squadron has carried out its first parachuting operations using the Embraer KC-390 military transport aircraft during the ADHU 25 exercise. The mission marks the debut of the Brazilian-built airlifter in this role with the Hungarian Defence Forces.

The first jumps involved soldiers from Hungary’s Special Operations Command, who boarded and deployed from the KC-390 for parachute operations. The aircraft was recently delivered to Hungary, following the country’s order of two units in November 2020. Hungary became the third international customer of the KC-390, after Brazil and Portugal.

According to the local media, the KC-390 was selected for its multi-role capabilities, including the transport of large cargo loads and air-dropping supplies by parachute. The aircraft can also deploy a significant number of paratroopers in a single sortie, addressing operational requirements for both personnel and equipment movement.

The first KC-390 was delivered in September 2024, while assembly of the second unit was underway in 2025. In addition to the airlifters, Hungary ordered an Intensive Care Unit kit, enabling the aircraft to perform medical evacuation missions if necessary.

The introduction of the KC-390 is expected to enhance Hungary’s air mobility, supporting both national defense and international operations. Further integration of the aircraft into the force structure is anticipated as delivery and training proceed.
