The Indian Army took delivery of the last three Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, completing a six-aircraft order from the United States. The helicopters arrived at Jodhpur, Rajasthan, where the fleet will be based.

The arrival allows the Indian Army to operationalize its full complement of Apaches for mission support along India’s western sector. The region faces the border with Pakistan and is a focus for both attack and reconnaissance operations.

Delivery of the Apaches experienced delays due to global supply chain disruptions and logistical issues, including a forced return of one aircraft to the US for refueling. The first batch, initially expected in February or March 2023, arrived in July.

The US Embassy in India stated, “The arrival of the most recent AH-64E Apache helicopters for the Indian Army is another step forward in the Major Defense Partnership between the United States and India,” according to an official statement.

The AH-64E Apache is equipped with advanced targeting, surveillance, and battlefield management systems. Its deployment is intended to enhance the Indian Army’s precision strike and reconnaissance capabilities in the region.

In addition to the Army, the Indian Air Force also operates the Apache, with 22 helicopters in service.
