Air TransportIndiGo has announced that it will begin operating direct flights between Mumbai and Copenhagen from October 8, marking the carrier’s entry into the Scandinavian market. The service will run three times weekly and will utilize Boeing 787-9 aircraft leased from Norse Atlantic Airways.
Copenhagen will become IndiGo’s 44th international destination and its first in Scandinavia. The new route is designed to provide a nonstop connection between India and Denmark, eliminating the need for transfers at major European hubs. According to the carrier, the flight time is expected to be between 9 and 10 hours.
The Mumbai to Copenhagen flights will depart at 04:35 local time, arriving in Denmark at 22:05 local time. Return flights from Copenhagen are scheduled to leave at 12:30, landing in Mumbai just after midnight.
The use of Boeing 787-9s, sourced through a leasing agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways, is notable as IndiGo continues to expand its international network beyond its standard narrowbody fleet.
IndiGo currently operates international services to Manchester and Amsterdam and has plans to launch flights to London.

According to IndiGo’s CEO Pieter Elbers, the new route responds to rising travel demand between India and Northern Europe. The company’s international expansion comes ahead of Scandinavian Airlines’ own planned direct service between Copenhagen and Mumbai, set to begin in 2026.
In a related development, IndiGo has also revealed that Athens will be the inaugural destination for its Airbus A321XLR, with flights scheduled to start in June 2026.
