The Indonesian Air Force will receive its first three Dassault Rafale multirole fighters in January 2026, following a formal acceptance ceremony at Dassault Aviation’s Merignac production facility in Bordeaux on November 28.

The initial delivery will include aircraft with registration numbers T-0301, T-0302, and T-0303. This handover is part of Indonesia’s previously announced contract for 42 Rafale fighters, comprising 30 single-seat (Rafale A) and 12 twin-seat (Rafale B)) all in the F4 variant.

Indonesia signed the Rafale acquisition agreement in February 2022, aiming to modernize its combat fleet amid increasing regional security concerns. The order forms part of a broader effort to upgrade capabilities and replace aging assets.

The Rafale fighters are scheduled to be stationed at Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base in Pekanbaru, supporting Indonesia’s strategic posture in the region.

“We appreciate the commitment of Dassault Aviation and the support from Safran and Thales to ensure the quality and readiness of the Rafale, which will strengthen the Indonesian Air Force,” said Air Marshal TNI Tedi Rizalihadi, Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

The Rafale is seen as a central element in Indonesia’s air defense modernization program, joining its F-16s and Sukhoi Su-27/Su-30 fighters. The F4 standard includes upgraded sensors, integration of new weapons, improved datalink, and enhanced connectivity features for high-intensity operations.
