DefenseL3Harris Technologies has secured a US$300 million contract from the Italian government to deliver two Gulfstream G550 aircraft outfitted with advanced electromagnetic warfare systems. In partnership with BAE Systems, this marks the first U.S.-approved international sale of an EA‑37B variant.
These modified G550s will provide the Italian Air Force with airborne jamming capabilities, equipped to disrupt enemy command-and-control communications, radars, and navigation systems with extended range, altitude, and endurance.
“We are expanding our support of Italy’s armed forces by equipping them with modern mission technology ready for managing a dynamic global landscape,” said Jason Lambert, President of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance at L3Harris. “Our team will provide Italy with solutions to augment its national security and increase its interoperability with the U.S. and strategic allies.”
Upon completion, the jets will join Italy’s fleet of special-mission aircraft, complementing the Joint Airborne Multi-Mission Multi-Sensor System (JAMMS) program also managed by L3Harris. Two G550 ISR aircraft are currently being modified under the JAMMS banner.
The JAMMS program is part of L3Harris’s increasing portfolio of multi-mission aircraft solutions across a wide range of commercial platforms, supporting critical security missions for the U.S., Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and other allies.
