Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced an additional order for 17 737 MAX 8 aircraft from Boeing. The new jets will replace the 737-800 models currently in operation.
In addition to the 21 aircraft ordered in March 2023, JAL will have 38 737 MAX 8s in its fleet, with the first delivery taking place in April 2026.
JAL will also receive 11 A321neos that will replace the Boeing 767s on domestic flights from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.
The Japanese carrier also has 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and 20 A350-900s on order. These aircraft, as well as the A321neo, will be delivered from 2027 and 2028.
JAL’s order book also includes three A350-900s for domestic flights and five A350-1000s for international flights.

On March 19, Japan Airlines also announced that it had reached a codeshare agreement with Kalitta Air on the scheduled freighter route between Tokyo (Narita) and Chicago, USA.
The flights will begin on May 10 and will be operated with the Boeing 777-300ERSF, a variant converted to cargo by IAI.
The route will include the reinforcement of the cargo holds of a scheduled passenger flight that will be launched on May 31.
