Skymark, Japan’s third-largest airline, approved an order for six Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets at a board meeting on May 22.
The aircraft will cost about 143.4 billion yen ($956 million) and will be delivered starting in fiscal 2030, the company said in a notice to shareholders.
The new order comes on top of the first two orders in 2023 and 2024 that include five 737 MAX jets of undisclosed variants by Boeing.

Skymark had announced plans to add up to 12 737 MAX jets by November 2022. At the time, it planned to order four of the 737-8 and 737-10 variants with an option for two more.
The Japanese carrier also planned to lease six more 737 MAX 8s, but an agreement on this was never revealed.
Skymark Airlines’ fleet currently consists of 29 Boeing 737-800s with an average age of 13.3 years, according to Planespotters.
Its flight network is domestic, operating routes on Japan’s three main islands as well as to more distant archipelagos.
