The Embraer E190 epic at JetBlue may have gained an end date, September 4. That is when a special flight between New York (JFK) and Boston, named B6 1900, is scheduled.

The possible end of flights with the regional jet was speculated by the profile Ishrion Aviation, noting that there is no official confirmation.

JetBlue has only nine E190s out of a total of 63 aircraft of the type operated since 2005, when it was the launch customer for the variant.

The airline had previously revealed plans to end operations of the 100-seat aircraft and replace it with the larger and more efficient Airbus A220.

In July 2024, JetBlue updated its fleet plan, postponing the delivery of A321neo jets and also bringing forward the retirement of the remaining E-Jets to the end of 2025.

Low cost by David Neeleman

JetBlue was founded by serial entrepreneur David Neeleman, who also owns Breeze Airways and the Brazilian carrier Azul Linhas Aereas.

The company was launched in 1998 with the aim of offering more affordable services, but with amenities such as on-board TV.

Operations began in 2000 from New York and even September 11 was not enough to cause losses to the company, which grew in the following years supported by a lighter and more agile structure.

Neeleman, however, left JetBlue in 2008 after losing his position as CEO the previous year.

His replacement, David Barger, regretted the choice of the Brazilian aircraft years after it entered service, saying at the time that JetBlue was too small to be the launch customer and that the repeated problems with production and the GE CF34 engines had disappointed him.

Despite this, the E190 is set to end its era at JetBlue after exactly 20 years.
