Air TransportK-Impex Airline, from Nigeria, announced that it has acquired four Embraer E190 jets for its domestic operations in the African country.
The announcement comes during the final phase of obtaining the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, without a timeline disclosed for the delivery of the aircraft.
Founded in 2021 as Knights Impex Limited, the company has expanded its activities into the aviation sector and now aims to serve over 40 national destinations, including routes less explored by major airlines.
The chosen Embraer E190s will be configured with 98 seats, arranged in 90 economy class seats and 8 business class seats.
“We chose direct purchase to reclaim the capital flight associated with the leasing option,” stated Abel Ozigi, chief executive of K-Impex Airline Limited to the local press.
The company reported that it intends to carry out light maintenance of the aircraft in local hangars, but did not detail support contracts or broader maintenance agreements.
Commercial aviation in Nigeria has been trying to expand but faces challenges, with airlines such as Air Peace and United Nigeria Airlines seeking to grow their fleets.
