Air TransportKLM deployed a Boeing 787-10 on a special flight from Amsterdam Schiphol to London Heathrow on Wednesday evening, January 7, to transport passengers stranded by recent disruptions.
The decision to use a widebody aircraft with 318 seats followed days of operational challenges at Schiphol, where winter storms led to the cancellation of multiple regular flights to London that are typically operated with Embraer E-Jets seating just over 100 passengers.
“This flight is for passengers who are stranded at Schiphol and whose final destination is London Heathrow,” the airline stated.
Flight KLM 1015 carried the backlog of passengers to London, while the same Boeing 787-10, registered PH-BKO, subsequently returned from Heathrow with travelers awaiting a delayed opportunity to reach Amsterdam.
KLM indicated that it expects nearly all scheduled flights for Thursday to proceed as planned, suggesting a return to normal operations after the weather-induced disruption.
The Dutch carrier regularly operates the Amsterdam-London route with Embraer E190 and E195-E2 aircraft, due to the short distance between the two cities.
