Kuwait Airways has taken delivery of the first of seven widebody Airbus A330-900s in Toulouse, France.

The jet, named “Boubyan”, was given the registration 9K-ABJ and arrived in Kuwait City on December 9.

The flag carrier did not reveal the configuration of the A330-900, but the aircraft will be used to expand its route network.

Kuwait Airways also became the first carrier to operate both variants of the A330neo. It is one of the few customers of the A330-800, which carries fewer passengers than the A330-900 but has a greater range.

The airline’s fleet consists of four A330-800s, 10 Boeing 777-300ERs, nine A320neos and two A320ceos.

“Kuwait Airways is pleased to receive its first Airbus A330-900NEO aircraft, the first of seven aircraft of the same type to be received successively over the coming years, according to the company’s aircraft delivery plan,” said Kuwait Airways Chairman, Captain Abdulmohsen Salem Al-Fagaan.

Kuwait Airways’ route network focuses on the Middle East, Asia and Europe, with just one flight to New York (JFK) in the Americas and to Casablanca (Morocco) in West Africa.
