DefenseL3Harris Technologies has secured a contract to deliver four Bombardier Global 6500-based airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft to the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF). The program, valued at over $2.26 billion, involves collaboration with Bombardier, Israel’s ELTA Systems, and Korean Air.
The acquisition aims to strengthen South Korea’s airborne surveillance and command capabilities. The new aircraft are designed to operate at higher altitudes and for extended durations, improving the country’s mission readiness and airspace monitoring.
L3Harris and its partners will develop, test, integrate, and sustain these platforms over the coming years. The AEW&C suite includes a radar proven in operational environments and a communications package that will enable interoperability with the United States, NATO, and coalition partners.
IAI ELTA cited sensor miniaturization and advanced AESA radar technology as key features of the new system. The suite is expected to facilitate faster detection and tracking of aerial threats.

The four Global 6500 AEW&C aircraft will complement ROKAF’s existing fleet of Boeing E-7 Wedgetails, which already provide airborne radar coverage. This addition will expand the air force’s surveillance capabilities and extend the coverage envelope.
Delivery schedules and integration timelines have not been disclosed, but the project is positioned as a multi-year effort.
“L3Harris is ready to deliver an advanced aircraft fleet that will strengthen mission effectiveness for a key American ally in the Indo-Pacific region,” said Christopher Kubasik, Chair and CEO, L3Harris. “We look forward to collaborating with the Republic of Korea to develop, test, integrate and sustain this vital capability for years to come.”
