LATAM Airlines has completed the cabin retrofit of the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, according to the CEO Roberto Alvo, in a post on LinkedIn on Monday.

The Chilean-based crrier has also finished retrofitting eight 787-8s, which are being updated in Brazil and Chile. The renovations are part of a project initiated in 2021 and involve the modernization of 24 aircraft by 2025.

“What happens when you ‘dismantle’ the interior of a Boeing 787-9 to transform its cabin? Spoiler alert: it’s not like renovating a house. It’s much more complex,” said the chief executive, who revealed backstage details of the work on his profile.

According to Alvo, the modernization process involves the participation of up to 150 professionals per aircraft, distributed in multidisciplinary teams.

More than 70 suppliers collaborate for the installation of about 2,500 new parts in each aircraft, with the average execution time ranging between six and nine weeks.

Among the main changes, LATAM highlights the replacement of premium seats, bathrooms, kitchens, and in-flight entertainment systems. The company has also become the first in the world to install a crew rest area outside Boeing’s facilities.

The project was planned to meet technological update demands and offer comfort standards aligned with industry trends.
