Air TransportLATAM Airlines and the Chilean pilots’ union reached an agreement that ended the strike of the category on Wednesday after a week of problems. According to the company, this will allow the resumption of normal operations from November 25.
The agreement was reached after negotiations aimed at balancing the sustainability of the company with competitive working conditions for pilots based in Chile. LATAM reported that the cancellations announced until November 24 remain in effect, with a full resumption of operations the following day.
“Despite all our efforts, we deeply regret the impact this strike may have caused to some of our passengers. At the same time, we thank all the teams who worked during these days to protect the passengers,” said Paulo Miranda, Vice President of Customers at LATAM Airlines Group.
The company stated that it will proactively notify affected passengers through its official channels if there are changes to previously scheduled flights.
Pilots of the Chilean division began the work stoppage at midnight on November 12, following the failure of negotiations between the category’s union and the airline.
The strike occurred after the rejection, on November 3, of the last proposal presented by Latam, which was considered insufficient to meet the main demands of the pilots.
The union, which had been negotiating with the company under the mediation of the Labor Directorate, expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of significant concessions.
“It is inexplicable that the company’s management has led us to a strike that we always considered avoidable, comparing its profits and our labor demands,” said Mario Troncoso, president of the Pilots’ Union last week.
