Latam Airlines intends to resume flights to Caracas once security guarantees for passengers and crew are in place, according to Roberto Alvo, CEO of Latam Group.

Speaking to the outlet Reportur, Alvo said the airline also plans to increase capacity to Venezuela once operations restart, following Nicolás Maduro’s departure from the presidency and the transfer of power to Delcy Rodríguez after intervention by the U.S. government under President Donald Trump.

“For us to resume flights, the main pillar is the safety of our passengers and our people,” Alvo said. “We suspended operations on November 22 for security reasons, which are well known. The Venezuelan authority revoked operating permits not only for Latam, but for all airlines that stopped flying to the country.”

Before the suspension, Latam operated four weekly frequencies on the Bogotá–Caracas route. Alvo said the airline is evaluating both the timing of a return and the level of capacity it could deploy, provided that operating conditions allow for safe and stable service.

The executive also pointed to infrastructure constraints in Colombia, particularly at Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport, which continues to face capacity limitations. The issue comes as Latam expands its international network.

The group recently announced new international routes, including Amsterdam, Brussels and Cape Town from São Paulo, as well as Aruba and Curaçao from Bogotá. Latam has said the additions are part of a strategy to strengthen its international presence in selected markets.

Latam continues to take a cautious approach in markets with higher operational or regulatory risk, prioritizing routes with predictable demand and clearer operating conditions. The group’s fleet is largely composed of Airbus A320-family aircraft for short- and medium-haul services and Boeing 787s for long-haul operations, with the introduction of Embraer E195-E2 aircraft planned from the second half of the year.
