As expected, Lufthansa City Airlines took delivery of its first new Airbus A320neo at the Airbus plant in Hamburg on April 8.
The aircraft, registered D-AIJP, has been named “Ingelheim am Rhein” and will enter service in May from its Munich hub.
Until now, the low-cost subsidiary of the German group has only used aircraft that have been transferred from other companies.
Configured with 180 seats, the A320neo features the new Airspace cabin, which offers more space in the overhead compartments as well as a more modern and comfortable lighting system.
The Lufthansa City fleet now comprises eight jets, four A319s and four A320neos. The airline is set to receive five more new A320neos and two used ones to reach the end of the year with 15 jets in service.

“Our new aircraft is a further motivation and incentive for the commitment and excellent work of all our employees, who contribute to the success and growth of our airline every day,” said Peter Albers, Managing Director of Lufthansa City Airlines.
The new carrier’s big step will come in 2026 when it will also start flying from Frankfurt and will receive the first of 40 Airbus A220-300s on order.
