Lufthansa City Airlines to launch flights on June 26
Lufthansa City Airlines had its debut date announced. The German group’s new regional subsidiary will launch its flights on June 26th.
The first route will run from Munich to Birmingham, England, and will be operated with Airbus A319 jets. The airline has already received three aircraft, which previously operated with Eurowings and Lauda Air.
According to Lufthansa, tickets can be booked from April 24th, including other destinations such as Hanover and Düsseldorf.
City Airlines flights will be coded “VL” as part of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) obtained by the new airline.
The German group intends to establish a feeder network for other airlines, especially Lufthansa. To this end, the regional carrier’s flights will be made from the Munich and Frankfurt hubs.
Initially, the flights will be carried out with old A320 family jets, however, Lufthansa has ordered 40 new A220-300s, in addition to 20 purchase options.
The new planes are expected to be delivered from 2026.

For our guests and employees, we are driving forward our renewal and thus strengthening Lufthansa’s planned growth in long-haul traffic,” said Jens Fehlinger, Lufthansa City Airlines Managing Director Operations.
City Airlines’ goal is to compete with low-cost airlines and thus create combined flight options with its parent company, Lufthansa.
Its employees have been hired on less attractive terms, which has sparked protests from unions linked to the group.
