Lufthansa Group has selected Starlink to provide high-speed broadband internet across all airlines and fleets within the group, covering approximately 850 aircraft. The new connectivity solution will be installed both on existing aircraft and on new deliveries, with entry into service expected to begin in the second half of 2026.

According to the group, the system will enable significantly higher bandwidth than current onboard connectivity solutions, supporting applications such as video streaming, cloud-based work and other data-intensive services. The internet service will be offered free of charge to status customers and registered Travel ID users across all travel classes.

The airline group said the Starlink rollout is part of its broader investment programme focused on fleet renewal and premium product upgrades. Once fully deployed, Lufthansa Group will become the largest airline group in Europe to operate Starlink-equipped aircraft.

Starlink has been expanding its presence in commercial aviation, securing contracts with several major airlines. In the United States, United Airlines has committed to equipping a large part of its fleet with the system, while Alaska Airlines has also announced plans to adopt Starlink connectivity. In the Middle East, Qatar Airways has already introduced the technology on widebody aircraft as part of its onboard product offering.

Based on a low Earth orbit satellite constellation, Starlink offers lower latency and higher data throughput than traditional geostationary connectivity systems, a capability increasingly cited by airlines as passenger demand for reliable inflight internet continues to grow.

Lufthansa Group said the installation programme will be carried out gradually, starting in 2026, with the full fleet expected to be equipped by 2029. Additional technical and operational details are expected to be disclosed later this year.
