Lufthansa has unveiled a special livery to commemorate its 100th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2026. The new design will be featured on a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, registration D-ABPU, scheduled for delivery in Frankfurt in November and set to enter regular service in December.

The commemorative livery consists of a blue fuselage with a white crane, a symbol originally created by Otto Firle in 1918 and closely associated with Lufthansa’s brand identity. The design integrates the aircraft’s wings with the crane’s wings, creating a visual connection between the plane and the emblem. Additionally, the numbers ‘100’ and ‘1926 / 2026’ are displayed on the fuselage, and a ‘100’ logo is painted on the underside of the aircraft.

The Boeing 787-9, a long-haul widebody aircraft, was chosen to carry the anniversary livery. The painting process was carried out in Charleston, USA, before delivery to Lufthansa’s main hub in Frankfurt. According to the company, the aircraft will serve as a brand ambassador during the centennial celebrations.

Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa, emphasized that the new livery represents the carrier’s tradition, safety, and quality. The airline expects the visual identity to reflect a combination of movement, elegance, and historical continuity.

“Our Lufthansa crane stands for safety, pioneering spirit, premium quality, but also for freedom and reliability. This has been the case for the past 100 years and will continue to be so in the future. We are proud of our tradition and our values, and we look forward to continuing our great history. The special livery of the Boeing 787 honors our identity and also stands for a proud team of Lufthansa employees who give everything every day for the safety and well-being of our guests,” said Ritter.

Further anniversary initiatives are anticipated as the official centennial date approaches in 2026.
