Lufthansa’s Airbus A380 has appeared in a special blue livery marking the airline’s 100th anniversary, becoming the largest aircraft in its fleet to carry the commemorative design.

The aircraft, registered D-AIMH, arrived at Munich Airport on flight LH9901 after repainting work in Shannon, Ireland. The jet now features an oversized stylized crane along the fuselage, alongside the markings “1926 | 2026” and “100,” referencing the founding of the original Deutsche Luft Hansa in 1926.

According to the airline, 35 technicians worked for 34 days to complete the repaint. The artwork spans more than 4,000 square meters, including a 47-meter-long crane motif. The aircraft is scheduled to return to regular passenger operations in March.

The A380 is the fourth Lufthansa aircraft to receive the anniversary scheme. Earlier this month, an Airbus A350-900 debuted in similar colors in Munich. A Boeing 787-9 and an Airbus A320neo, both based in Frankfurt, are also operating with the centenary livery. Another A320neo in the same design is expected to join the fleet shortly.

In the coming weeks, a Boeing 747-8 and an Airbus A350-1000 are also set to receive the special paint scheme. Lufthansa plans to operate a total of seven aircraft in anniversary colors as part of the centenary celebrations.

The aircraft selected for the commemorative livery are being repainted during scheduled maintenance cycles or delivered new from the factory in the special scheme, limiting additional costs associated with the initiative.
