Air TransportA Luxair flight to Milan operated by a new Embraer E195-E2 turned back to Luxembourg shortly after takeoff on Monday, January 19.
Flight LG6991 departed Findel Airport in the morning but returned soon after departure. Luxair described the decision as a precautionary measure and declined to comment on the technical circumstances that led to the turnaround, according to Luxemburger Wort.
The flight was operated by aircraft registration LX-LEA, the first Embraer E195-E2 delivered to Luxair. The jet arrived in Luxembourg on November 29, 2025, and has been in commercial service for less than a week.
Passengers were rebooked onto a Dash 8-400 turboprop, which subsequently operated the Luxembourg–Milan service. That replacement flight landed in Milan at 11:21 local time.

Configured with 136 seats in a single-class layout, the E195-E2 offers 60 more seats than the Dash 8-400 that has traditionally operated the route.
The incident occurred two days after the aircraft’s official inauguration flight on Saturday, which included a round trip to Vienna attended by Luxembourg transport minister Yuriko Backes and Luxair chief executive Gilles Feith.
The Embraer E195-E2 is part of Luxair’s fleet renewal plan. The airline has committed to six aircraft of the type and holds purchase rights for an additional three.
