Malaysia Airlines takes delivery of first A330-900 leased by Avolon
Malaysia Airlines’ first A330-900 has been delivered by lessor Avolon, the company announced on November 29.
The delivery took place on Thursday at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse, France, from where the aircraft departed in the evening for a ferry flight to Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia Airlines has announced an agreement to add 20 A330neo widebodies to its fleet in August 2022 through the lease of ten aircraft and the purchase and leaseback of ten more jets, both with Avolon.
Configured with 297 seats (28 in business class and 269 in economy), the A330-900s will replace the A330ceo in the fleet by 2028. The Malaysian carrier plans to receive four more aircraft by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
Compared to its predecessor, the A330-300, the A330-900 can fly over 13,300 km (7,200 nm) while burning 25% less fuel. It is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines.
