The Norwegian government and NHIndustries concluded an amicable settlement on October 30, resolving all disputes related to Norway’s NH90 helicopter program. The agreement covers the return of all NH90 aircraft, mission-specific equipment, and spare parts previously delivered to Norway.

The settlement follows Norway’s cancellation of its NH90 order after persistent delays and maintenance problems. NHIndustries will compensate the Norwegian government with €305 million plus approximately €70 million already paid, and both parties will cease all legal proceedings.

Norway had initially sought €2.86 billion in damages to address losses, including the cost of acquiring US-made replacement helicopters. The agreement preempts a court case that was scheduled to begin on November 10.

The NH90 program has faced longstanding criticism for late deliveries and support challenges. Norway’s first NH90 was delivered six years after the contractual deadline, and the first fully operational aircraft entered service twelve years after contract signature.

Norway signed the original NH90 procurement contract in 2001, placing an order for 14 aircraft with the intent to modernize its rotary-wing fleet. The program’s delays and operational issues led to a reevaluation of the country’s maritime helicopter needs.
