Air TransportThe revived Pan American World Airways, now operating as Pan Am, intends to deploy Airbus A320neo aircraft as part of its future operations in Miami, according to co-founder Ed Wegel.
The airline has initiated its FAA certification process, aiming to launch services from Miami with an initial fleet of Airbus aircraft. Pan Am has not disclosed a timeline for service entry or specific route details.
Ed Wegel confirmed the focus on the A320neo, stating: “Pan Am is well known for having operated Boeing aircraft, but also operated Airbus types, including the A300 and A310.”
He added, “The new Pan Am will operate the A320 NEO (subject to FAA and DOT approval, of course) at some point in the future when supply chain and engine issues are resolved.”

Pan Am ordered 25 Airbus A320 aircraft in 1987. This order was part of a strategy to modernize its fleet and compete in the commercial aviation market. However, Pan Am faced financial difficulties and eventually declared bankruptcy in 1991, before receiving all the ordered aircraft.
The new carrier is led by Pan American Global Holdings in partnership with AVi8 Air Capital. The number of A320neo aircraft to be acquired or leased has not been specified.
The carrier began its FAA certification process earlier this year and continues to navigate regulatory and supply chain factors.
