DefensePanama has signed a contract for the acquisition of four A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, to be operated by the National Air and Naval Service (SENAN) as a new platform for surveillance and protection. The announcement was made on Thursday in Gavião Peixoto, Brazil, where the aircraft is produced by Embraer.
“It is an honor for Embraer to see another Latin American country choose the A-29 Super Tucano to enhance its surveillance, reconnaissance and protection capabilities. Panama’s choice of the Super Tucano, the world leader in its category, will certainly serve as a strong ally to support the country in its mission to maintain national sovereignty,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.
The agreement is part of SENAN’s program to expand its operational capabilities and strengthen Panama’s ongoing national security project. With this decision, Panama becomes the eighth Latin American country to select the A-29 Super Tucano, alongside Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic.
The A-29 Super Tucano is the global leader in its category, with more than 600,000 flight hours and 22 air forces already operating the type worldwide. Known for its reliability, robustness, low operating costs and mission flexibility, the aircraft is capable of performing a wide range of operations, including air patrol, special missions, tactical coordination (TAC), ISR, border surveillance, counter-illicit operations, reconnaissance, air escort, and pilot training at multiple levels.
