DefenseThe Polish Air Force is considering the use of additional aircraft platforms to counter slow and low-flying targets such as loitering munitions, Major-General Ireneusz Nowak said in an interview with Defence24.
The Embraer A-29 Super Tucano will be evaluated for this purpose. “We will definitely test the Super Tucano and examine it more closely at the beginning of 2026,” confirmed Nowak.
The Air Force is also assessing the suitability of other available aircraft in Poland for counter-UAV missions, including the Brisa M-28 light transport and AH-64E Apache helicopters. The Apache fleet, totaling 96 aircraft on order, is expected to play a role in addressing the UAV threat.
Embraer representatives highlighted the Super Tucano’s offer during a recent display of KC-390 Millennium transport aircraft in Poland. The evaluation will include a review of weapon options for both helicopters and fixed-wing platforms against UAVs.
The A-29 Super Tucano is currently operated by more than a dozen countries for light attack and counter-insurgency missions. In December, Portugal received five A-29N aircraft, a NATO variant, as part of an order for 12 turboprop aircraft.
