The first A-29N Super Tucano turboprops for the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) took off from Embraer’s facilities in Gavião Peixoto, Brazil.

Images of the aircraft being prepared for flight and taking off were shared on social media, but the manufacturer itself had not released a statement at the time of this article’s publication.

Two A-29Ns are identified with the civil registrations PT-CYA and PT-CYV, which will be replaced when they are delivered to the FAP.

At OGMA, the Super Tucanos will receive NATO-standard equipment such as a tactical data link and single-pilot operation capability, distinguishing features of the variant launched by Embraer in 2023.

The Portuguese Air Force ordered 12 turboprops in 2024 and is expected to receive the first aircraft later this year.

Portugal’s order is the first for the Super Tucano in Europe in almost 20 years that the aircraft has been in service.
