Rise Air took delivery of its first ATR 72-600 on December 19, becoming the Canadian launch customer for the new ATR -600 series. The carrier accepted the aircraft following certification by Transport Canada in late November.

The aircraft is the first of three ATR 72-600s ordered under a leasing agreement signed in November 2024. Two additional units are scheduled to join Rise Air’s fleet in 2026.

“Introducing the ATR 72-600 is about delivering modern, safe, and reliable air transportation to remote work sites and infrastructure projects that are vital to Saskatchewan’s economy,” said Derek Nice, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rise Air.

The ATR 72-600 is powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127XT engines, which provide lower maintenance costs and up to 45% less CO₂ emissions compared to similarly sized regional jets. ATR Chief Executive Officer Nathalie Tarnaud Laude noted, “The ATR 72-600 combines exceptional fuel efficiency with lower operating and maintenance costs, making it the ideal aircraft to operate thin routes profitably and serve the most remote communities.”

Rise Air’s investment in the ATR 72-600 marks the largest fleet renewal in its 70-year history. The carrier operates primarily in Saskatchewan, focusing on essential connectivity for remote and indigenous communities.

The ATR 72-600 has seen increasing adoption among regional carriers worldwide, with over 1,800 ATR aircraft delivered to more than 200 operators.

In Canada, the ATR 72-600 provides an alternative to turboprops such as the De Havilland Canada Dash 8, that is no longer produced, offering improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
