DefenseSweden’s Saab has signed a memorandum of understanding with Joint Stock Company “Ukrainian Defense Industry” (JSC UDI) to explore cooperation in aviation and airborne surveillance, the companies said at the Munich Security Conference.
The agreement outlines intentions to collaborate in areas where both sides have complementary expertise, with the stated aim of strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities. The memorandum was signed during the 2026 edition of the conference in Germany.
JSC UDI is a state-owned conglomerate that consolidates Ukrainian defense enterprises and serves as a key manufacturer of weapons and military equipment. Saab said it would contribute experience in defense manufacturing and advanced aviation and airborne surveillance technologies.
“We look forward to collaborating with JSC UDI, exploring cooperation opportunities relating to Ukraine. Saab is strongly committed to supporting Ukraine’s defence capability and its defence sector,” Anders Carp, Saab’s deputy CEO, said in a statement.

The agreement does not specify particular programs or platforms. However, Saab has previously been in discussions regarding the potential supply of Gripen E/F fighter jets to Ukraine. No formal contract has been signed, and any transfer of combat aircraft would depend on political decisions and funding arrangements among involved governments.
The MoU signals closer industrial ties at a time when Ukraine is seeking to expand and modernize its air capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
