Air TransportSAS Scandinavian Airlines will acquire 45 E195-E2 jets in addition to 10 purchase options for the aircraft from Embraer.
The announcement was made by the carrier’s CEO, Anko van der Werff at a press conference on Tuesday.
“This is a defining moment for SAS,” says Anko van der Werff, President & CEO, SAS.
The Embraer E195-E2 is a world-class aircraft, combining outstanding performance with excellent fuel efficiency and comfort. This aircraft is key to enabling future growth and improved connectivity across Scandinavia and beyond.”
The first aircraft will be delivered from the end of 2027, with additional deliveries extending until 2031.

Formed in 1946 with the union of airlines from Sweden, Denmark and Norway, SAS was for many years one of the most solid European companies, but has gone through a serious financial crisis in recent years.
The company spent just over two years under judicial protection in the US, but emerged from Chapter 11 in August last year. To this end, it received investment from a consortium formed by Castlelake, Lind Invest, the Danish government and the Air France-KLM Group, the latter now owns 20% of SAS.
For Embraer, the order is a relief after losing to Airbus in the competition for an order for more than 80 aircraft made by LOT Polish Airlines, which opted for the rival A220.
LOT was the launch customer for the E-Jets in 2004 when it received an E170 and to this day flies almost all versions, within a fleet of more than 44 aircraft.

The SAS group has been flying with Embraer jets since 2022, when it began receiving used E195 aircraft.
There are currently 13 jets of the type in the fleet, configured with 122 seats and operated by the subsidiary SAS Link.
The E195-E2 is Embraer’s largest passenger aircraft, capable of seating up to 146. The most common layout, however, has between 132 and 136 seats.
