Singapore in talks with Embraer to order up to 50 E-Jets - report
Embraer may close a large order in Southeast Asia. Singapore Airlines is reportedly negotiating an order for up to 50 E190-E2 and E195-E2 jets for its low-cost subsidiary Scoot, according to Bloomberg.
Currently, the airline operates a fleet of 60 aircraft, divided into 40 A320 family jets and 20 Boeing 787 widebodies. With Embraer models, Scoot could serve smaller destinations in the region since they have between 114 and 146 seats. According to outlet sources, talks are still taking place and a deal is not yet considered certain.
Singapore Airlines does not operate small single-aisle aircraft. The smallest jet in its fleet is the Boeing 737-800 and the 737 MAX 8 while Scoot has 25 first generation A320s.
Recently, Embraer carried out a long tour with the "Tech Lion" demonstration E195-E2 in Asia, passing through countries such as Jordan, United Arab Emirates, China, Japan, Vietnam and India, but did not visit Singapore on that occasion.
Embraer has sought to close new orders for the E2 family in regions where passenger air traffic is growing. Until the third quarter, the E2 jets accumulated 247 firm orders, 227 for the E195-E2 version and 20 for the E190-E2.
