Somon Air, the national airline of Tajikistan, announced on November 06 an agreement with Boeing for up to 14 aircraft, including four 787-9 Dreamliners and ten 737-8s. The deal was signed during the C5+1 Summit in the United States.

The order marks a significant step in Somon Air’s fleet renewal strategy and its plans to expand internationally. The 787-9 widebodies will enable the airline to launch long-haul routes for the first time.

Currently, Somon Air operates a fleet of six Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft serving 25 destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The addition of 787-9s represents the airline’s first commitment to widebody operations.

The airline’s order also includes up to ten 737-8s, aimed at modernizing the narrowbody fleet. These new aircraft are expected to deliver a 20-25% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the models they replace.

When finalized, the agreement is projected to support over 11,000 jobs in the United States, according to Boeing. Somon Air was founded in 2008 and serves as the official carrier for Tajikistan’s president.
