South Korea is in active negotiations to sell KF-21 Boramae multirole fighter to the Philippines, according to reports from the Seoul International Aerospace & Defence Exhibition that was held at Seoul Air Base on October 19.

Korea Aerospace Industries’ (KAI) efforts aims to expand its regional market presence. The Philippine Air Force currently operates the FA-50 light fighter and has recently requested more units.

Park Seonhee, senior manager for international business development (Asia) at KAI, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the Philippines in enhancing its air capabilities. Park noted that the operational experience of the Philippine Air Force provides valuable reference for prospective international customers.

The KF-21 Boramae is a 4.5-generation fighter designed to compete with China’s J-10 aircraft. KAI plans to introduce the KF-21 into service by the end of next year.

Alongside the KF-21, KAI also exhibited the FA-50 light combat aircraft, the Light Armed Helicopter, and the KUH-1 Surion utility helicopter at the exhibition.

The Philippines acquired 12 Lockheed Martin F-16V fighter jets, however, the agreement with the United States was reportedly suspended in September due to budget constraints.
