Sweden will acquire four C-390 Millennium multi-role aircraft, Embraer revealed on Tuesday. The announcement was made during LAAD Defence & Security 2025 in Rio de Janeiro and was attended by Peter Sandwall, State Secretary of the Swedish Ministry of Defence.
It is understood that the Swedish government is yet to sign the contract formalising the acquisition but, according to Embraer, the country has secured the production slots for the aircraft.
“We are proud to take another significant step towards the acquisition of this interoperable aircraft. The C-390’s ability to perform its missions in challenging environments anytime, anywhere will be a critical asset to Sweden’s defence strategy, ensuring effective operations for decades to come,” said Peter Sandwall, State Secretary of the Swedish Ministry of Defence.

“Sweden’s commitment to acquire four C-390 Millennium aircraft marks a significant step forward in enhancing the Swedish Air Force’s operational capabilities. These next-generation aircraft will not only increase Sweden’s military transport efficiency, but will also expand existing European synergies in interoperability, training and life cycle support. Embraer remains dedicated to meeting Sweden’s requirements by providing high-quality military transport aircraft, ensuring that the Swedish Air Force can execute its most demanding missions with excellence,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.
With Sweden, Embraer now has 46 orders for the C-390 Millennium, in addition to a letter of intent signed by Slovakia, which intends to order three aircraft.

The tactical transport aircraft capable of carrying up to 26 tons of cargo was selected by ten countries: Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Sweden, Slovakia and an undisclosed nation.
The secret country, identified as Uzbekistan, has ordered two C-390s.
There are currently ten aircraft in active service, seven in the Brazilian Air Force, two in Portugal and one in Hungary. Embraer is expected to deliver four C-390s during 2025.
