Sweden has signed a cooperation agreement with the Netherlands and Austria to be part of the acquisition contract for C-390 Millenium aircraft from Embraer.
The Swedish government’s Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) announced its accession to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last year by the Netherlands and Austria on April 22.
According to the agency, by making the acquisition through the group, the order “becomes less expensive and the aircraft can be delivered more quickly than if FMV completed the acquisition on its own.”
The Swedish Air Force confirmed the selection of the C-390 late last year and intends to have four aircraft in its fleet, which will replace the C-130 Hercules turboprops.

The tripartite agreement now includes an order for 13 C-390 Millenniums, five of which will go to the Royal Netherlands Air Force, and four aircraft each to Austria and Sweden.
Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027 and continue until the beginning of the next decade.
Sweden’s selection of the C-390s would be conditional on a second batch of Saab Gripen E fighters being ordered by the Brazilian Air Force.
It is estimated that at least nine aircraft will be acquired to join the 36 jets ordered in 2014.
