TAP Air Portugal to fly from Lisbon to Los Angeles starting in May
TAP Air Portugal will once again fly to Los Angeles from Lisbon, the Portuguese flag carrier announced.
Flights will begin on May 16 and will operate three times a week until May 26, when a fourth frequency will be added.
With a duration of 11 hours and 20 minutes, the flight will be operated with the Airbus A330-900, which has capacity for 298 passengers in two classes (34 in business class and 264 in economy).
“We are very excited to announce the new flights from Lisbon to Los Angeles and Porto to Boston, as well as the weekly offer of a direct flight between Terceira and San Francisco,” said Luís Rodrigues, President of TAP.
Return after 35 years
TAP previously flew to Los Angeles but closed the route in 1990. At the time, the flight was operated with the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, a three-engine widebody that did not have the range to fly nonstop.
To make the flight, the L-1011 made a stopover at Terceira Airport, in the Azores, an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean.
Interestingly, one of the four flights to Los Angeles will make a stopover in Terceira starting on June 3, but this time to serve the large Azorean community in California.
Porto-Boston flight
Another new route announced by TAP is the flight between Porto and Boston, which will operate four times a week from June 14 May to October 25.
The aircraft to be used is the A321LR, a long-range narrow-body jet that can carry 168 passengers.
