TUI Boeing 737-800 ends up in mud during landing in Leeds
A Boeing 737-800 from the airline TUI experienced an incident early Friday afternoon while landing at Leeds Bradford Airport, in northern England.
The jet, which had departed from Greece, ended up leaving the runway and stopping in the mud. It was raining and strong winds in the region due to the ‘Babbet’ storm, which may have influenced the situation.
According to TUI there were no injuries. Images published on social media show the Boeing 737 stuck in a strip of grass next to the runway.
Although it has winglets that resemble those used by the MAX model, the jet is a 737 NG.
ADS-B recordings show the plane registered G-TAWD even flew over the runway at medium altitude before returning for landing.
Leeds-Bradford Airport remained closed until the early evening of October 20 as crews attempted to remove the aircraft.
The Boeing 737-800 involved in the incident has been in service since February 2012, initially with Thomson Airways. It would have been leased by the company Babcock & Brown Aircraft Management.
