Turkish Airlines has formalized an order with Boeing for up to 75 787 Dreamliner aircraft, marking the largest widebody purchase in the airline’s history with the US manufacturer.

The agreement, which follows a recent official visit by the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the United States, includes 35 787-9 and 15 787-10 models, as well as options for 25 additional units.

The airline also announced its intention to acquire up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX jets, aiming to significantly increase its narrowbody capacity.

With these combined orders, Turkish Airlines plans to double its current fleet, which consists of more than 200 Boeing aircraft, including existing 787-9 Dreamliners and 737 MAX models. The move is in line with the carrier’s 2033 vision to operate a fleet of 800 aircraft.

The 787-10 variant, part of the new order, offers greater passenger and cargo capacity along with improved fuel efficiency on high-demand routes. These characteristics are expected to support Turkish Airlines’ network growth and operational needs.

Boeing estimates that this order will support over 123,000 jobs within the United States. Additionally, the manufacturer has invested $2 billion in the Turkish supply chain, generating nearly 5,000 jobs in Turkey.

The expansion is designed to meet growing demand and increase the carrier's global reach amid the Turkish government's plans to make the country a hub capable of rivaling Middle Eastern carriers such as Emirates and Qatar.
