Two more A-29N Super Tucano turboprops have arrived in Alverca, Portugal, as part of an order of 12 aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force to Embraer.

The aircraft performed the ferry flight from Brazil and were accompanied by a P-3C Orion turboprop from Squadron 601 – ‘Wolves’.

Both aircraft, still displaying Brazilian civil registrations PT-CUS and PT-CYU, will undergo the adaptation process to receive NATO equipment at OGMA facilities before operational delivery.

The two A-29N from Portugal in Alverca

Embraer had sent the first three A-29Ns to Portugal at the end of August. The expectation is that the first aircraft will enter service by the end of this year.

The Portuguese A-29Ns will be used in the training of military pilots, but mainly in tactical air support missions.

The country now has five A-29N on its territory

Portugal is the first customer of the A-29N variant, developed to meet the requirements of countries in the Western military alliance. Embraer is seeking new contracts in Europe, with other NATO nations.

The A-29N was launched by Embraer in April 2023 during the LAAD defense and security event.
