DefenseUnited Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has completed the first prototype of the Yak-130M, a modernized version of its Yak-130 jet trainer. Rostec announced on October 9, 2025, that the aircraft has been delivered for ground and flight testing.
The Yak-130M introduces updated avionics, propulsion, and weapons systems while retaining the basic airframe of the original Yak-130. Two additional Yak-130M units are currently under assembly at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant.
“The upgrade will allow the Yak-130M to be equipped with air-to-air missiles and high-precision air-to-surface weapons with satellite and laser guidance systems. The new aircraft will not only retain all the capabilities for training combat pilots, but will also acquire the qualities of a combat aircraft,” state-owned Rostec said.

The modernization aims to enhance tactical training capabilities and enable the use of guided munitions. The aircraft’s armament suite features the BRLS-130R radar, SOLT-130K electro-optical/laser system, and President-S130 self-protection system.
The Yak-130M is powered by the new SM-100 engine, derived from the AI-222-25, which delivers 20% more thrust and doubles the engine’s service life. These upgrades support the goal of transforming the Yak-130M into a light combat platform while maintaining its training role.
The aircraft will be capable of deploying air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles guided by satellite and laser systems. Further testing will determine the timeline for entry into service.
