United Airlines announced during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas that Starlink connectivity service in the skies will begin to be offered in the spring of 2025.

This is earlier than announced last September, when the carrier expected to put the technology on its aircraft later this year.

The first aircraft to feature Starlink will be Embraer E175 regional jets, which are operated by a network of United member airlines.

Testing on the aircraft will begin in January, and the expectation is that the entire fleet will be equipped with the free service by the end of the year.

United is also working to have the first commercial jet in its mainline fleet equipped with Starlink before the end of 2025.

“We have a lot planned for our MileagePlus members this year and adding Starlink to as many planes as we can – as quickly as we can – is at the center of it all,” said Richard Nunn, CEO of United MileagePlus.

The U.S. airline signed a deal with SpaceX in September to put Starlink on its entire fleet of aircraft.

The technology, which uses a massive network of small satellites, is considered the most advanced available on the market.
